How to Book a Gig at The Rudyard Kipling

Abstract
In our quest to unify our Louisville Music, we are tirelessly trying to give you the info to get more shows. We contacted Ken at the historic Rudyard Kipling to find out how exactly to book a gig at The Rudyard kipling. He had this to say:
Thank you for your inquiry about playing The Rudyard Kipling in Louisville Kentucky. If you can find a support act agreeable to us as described below, please let us know the date you’re looking for.
New bands and out-of-town bands will need a popular, established Louisville band also on their show in order to draw an audience at The Rudyard Kipling and must then feel confident that 60 or so will show up. The Rudyard is closed Sundays through Thursdays, except for special events; the special event opening would also need to attract 60 or so. New and out-of-town bands are asked not to contact The Rudyard Kipling until a show including the popular Louisville band has been built. It is often arranged that the local group will support the touring band with the touring band getting whatever money is collected in exchange for a date to appear with the touring band in that band’s home city and venue and the opportunity to earn money there. These arrangements are made by the bands, not The Rudyard Kipling. The band(s) set and collect the admittance price and keep 100% of the door; however, we must have $35 for the use of our sound equipment/technician. We will hold your credit card or debit card until after the show.

The Rudyard does not make a guarantee to the artists but provides food and domestic beer and discounts on other drinks to out-of-town bands. The Rudyard has no facilities for matching together the bands. Names and descriptions of some Louisville bands are listed at velocityweekly.com, then “life, leisure, Louisville”, then “sound and vision”, then “local band directory”; the emails or numbers or addresses of the bands are not listed, however. Sometimes they can be found by googling the band name. After the Louisville band shows interest, it should call The Rudyard to see about available dates.
Reservations for the concerts are made by persons calling in to leave a message and telephone number at 502-636-1311 or by emailing the above address (also given on therudyardkipling.com website) reservations are made only for dinner-and-the-show, since The Rudyard, receiving no money from the concert, has no other means of supporting itself and the show. There are two 10’ by 16’stages to choose from in the concert room. There are usually 3 microphones, 3 stands, 6 speakers, 2 monitors, and a 18 channel mixer. In the bar 7-9 p.m. The room’s capacity is 84 (seated at tables) or 154 without tables and chairs, only standees. Acts also play sometimes in the bar, capacity 74, for pass-the-hat. The audience is expected to be 21 and older (unless it’s the early [7:00-9:00] show which can be 18+), appreciative of music and listening, and not given to hollering, drunkenness, or other impolite or reckless behavior. Thank you for your interest in playing at the historic Rudyard Kipling, which aims to provide a warm, intimate, welcoming home for artists and guests.
