Please explain what it is that Dynasty Entertainment does and why Louisville artist, venues and promoters should be interested?
We interact with artists, venues, as well as promoters and we keep a tab of what locations are hot and for what genres of music. Also we build a good raport with the venues and bring events consistently to them. With the venues we have built relationships with we can go in and plan as well as book a date for an artists or a promoters event.
What inspired you all to get into this business?
Just the desire of giving Louisville something new is the sole reason of what brought us to be a business.
Currently what venues are your working with?
Currently the venues we have a relationships with are Raw (now closed), The Riverbend Winery, Petrus Lounge, Skybar, Prime, and also the Louisville Music Group Recording Record Label.
What does an artist need to get booked on one of your events from skills, equipment, etc.?
The artist needs their own instruments and it would also help if they had their own amps and monitors.
In your line of work you must talk with a lot of venues what are some of their concerns when you want to book artist at their venues and what can artist do to combat these concerns?
The primary concern is will the groups we are booking bring an audience to the actual venue. A lot of bands want to play at venues but don’t have a backing so if they were to get paid lets say $300 dollars and they don’t bring in even enough patrons to cover that the venue loses money. Their primary concern is the bottom line: MONEY.

Talk about some of the major issues you have run into when trying to build and promote an event from artist, to venue, to whatever.
The major issue that we have dealt with so far is artist as well as talented individuals actually doing what they say. We have booked some acts in the past for events and they were no-shows to the event. We need individuals who will be credible and also be accountable. If they say they are going to perform they will be on time and be ready to perform with everything set up before the show properly.
What has been your most successful event and why?
The most successful event we have put on is the Antonio Terrell concert at the Riverbend Winery. It was very successful because we promoted both on the radio, the Internet, and on the street. We have developed a great plan of how to reach the city and to get them curious or excited about an upcoming event. It was also easy to promote young Antoni because he was very enthusiastic about performing and he went out of his way to make the event a success.
What has been your worst event and why?
The worst event we did was an event at Petrus Lounge because it was poor planning on our part and we learned quite a lot from our mistakes.
What tips could you give to someone who is new to promotions and doing events to help them see success?
The most important thing is doing what you say you are going to do. Don’t tell anyone that you can do this or do that and not be able to actually do it. Also have your ideas planned out to the T and be flexible with your plans. Somethings must change on the fly.
How much does and average event cost?
The average cost for a successful event is $1300 dollars. $850 dollars is for a decent radio spin, $220 is a cost for promoting on Onyx of Louisville if you are looking for the 30+ crowd, and prices range on fliers. Plus you have to pay a street team to hand out fliers unless you want to spend hours handing out thousands of handbills.
What genres of music have you found to be the most successful in Louisville and why do you think that is?
I really can’t accurately give an answer because I haven’t been able to interact with all genres of music. I have noticed that a select few enjoy Folk Music while Reggae seems to be a crowd favorite.
How do you find new artist to work with and what genres of music do you work best with?
Well fortunately I have had the opportunity to meet up with the Local Sounds group and the Louisville Music Group which (I) Richard Rowland, Jr. have become a part of. We work well with music period. If it sounds good we can make it happen.
You have worked with many venues in Louisville which has been your favorite to work with and why?
I have enjoyed working with the Riverbend Winery because it is an older and upscale crowd who just come out to have a great time.
You have worked with many artist in Louisville which has been your favorite to work with and why?
My favorite artists to work with is Antonio Terrell because he is so young and humble about his talent but my favorite group to work with was Definitely Dem Reggae Band. Those guys had awesome musicianship and great vocals as well.
You are in a unique position dealing with nearly all sides of the music business from artist to venues to fans and concert goers give your opinion of Louisville's music scene, is it growing dieing, does it rock or need work what is your professional opinion?
I believe that the scene is growing. I think most groups in the city need to refine their talent and practice, practice, practice. I don’t think there are enough local groups known nationwide. We do have a lot of talent in the city though and we would love to assist you in getting your just do. You opportunity is just one knock away with Dynasty.
Who are a few up and coming Louisville artist that you are felling right now and why?
Antonio Terrell because he is a very humble individual with star talent. Really can’t say who else but possibly you should look for the band Soul River Brown and the Foundation as well as Maestro J and the Jazzy Blu Triad. They are awesome.
Tells us about your next event and how it came about?
Actually I will be over the listening parties for Antonio Terrell and Reggie who is another up and coming R and B Artist. I am actually going to Atlanta with them and putting on some shows there. Looks like I may be a personal event planner for both since I have signed a deal with the Louisville Music Group myself. We are looking for talent that is already polished and needing an image built as well as a little touch up of their albums to come.
We all know that football season is upon us, are you all U of L fans or U of K fans?
Well actually Larry and Teria are U of L Fans while Richard is a UK Fan
Are any of you musicians?
Larry Plays the Drums, and Richard Plays a little on the Drums and he used to play the Sax and Teria is the singer of the group.
If there was one thing that we as a community could do to improve our music scene what would it be and how would it help?
Just have Artists and groups understand that they aren’t stars yet and they shouldn’t be charging money like they are nationally known. Also if the artist and groups would just work hard at their craft and continue to work on musicianship, vocals, and showmanship they can reach the levels that they both want and could never believe.
